The public is being asked for information by the GardaĆ, who are looking into the death of a lady in a hit-and-run in County Limerick, reports RTE.

Shortly after noon yesterday, the woman was struck by a silver Ford transit van at Bank Place in Rathkeale.

The motorist did not stay on the site to treat the injured woman or call for help from emergency services.

After being admitted to the hospital, she passed away, reports RTE.

Locals have identified the 21-year-old as Marguerita Sheridan, who gave birth to her first child three weeks ago.

It is believed that at the time, Ms Sheridan was trying to shut a big set of gates that led into a garden at a residence on Bank Place, reports RTE.

Last night, University Hospital Limerick declared her deceased.

Social media has been used to pay tribute to her, expressing deep sorrow at her passing.

Yesterday, the GardaĆ conducted a technical inspection of the site, reports RTE.
