A train hauling crude oil has derailed in a heavily populated area of West Virginia. At least 27 of the more than 100 cars crashed off the tracks, with 15 of those catching fire.
Oil fell into the nearby Kanawha river, a source of drinking water for surrounding counties. More than 1,000 residents have been displaced, and the local water supply has been contaminated.
The intense heat from the fire caused more cars to explode, sending huge fireballs into the air. One home has reportedly been destroyed, and at least one person was injured.
