
A 79-yr-old man died at Mayo University Hospital from injuries sustained in a fall in Croagh Patrick on Friday, reports The Mirror.
The victim was identified locally as Pat O’Mahony, a company director who lived in The Harbor Mill complex overlooking the quay in Westport.
Mr O’Mahony fell on Croagh Patrick on Friday afternoon, at a time when weather conditions were particularly bad.
He was rescued and taken to 118 Mayo University Hospital where he died, reports The Mirror.
Tributes are being paid online to Mr O’Mahony, who had a distinguished career earlier in life.
He served as Senior Adviser to the Irish Commission of Inquiry (Banking Sector) in 2010-2011, reports The Mirror.
He was Chairman of the Irish Medicine Council for 14 years (1996-2010).
