
A 35-yr-old man from Ireland has died in an incident near Australia’s Great Barrier Reef.
Emergency services recovered his body from the water at Whitehaven Beach at around 11am on New Year’s Eve, according to Newstalk, reports Breaking News.
The man’s death is the third drowning reported in separate incidents at beaches in New South Wales over recent days.
A spokesperson for local lifesaving crews said the incident represented “a terrible start” to the new year, reports Breaking News.
The Department of Foreign Affairs told Newstalk that it is aware of the incident and is available to offer consular support.
