Tributes paid to ‘beautiful lady’ who sadly died in County Mayo crash

Tributes are being paid to a “beautiful lady” who brought a “bright and cheery presence” to all those around her before she is laid to rest today, reports The Mirror.

Chris O’Donnell, who was in her 60s, tragically died following a collision involving a lorry while walking along Rathbawn Road in Castlebar shortly before 10am on Thursday, April 24.

Chris, who was deeply loved, will be sorely missed by her devoted husband Vinny, her cherished sons and daughter, her grandchildren, siblings from across the world, friends, and a wide circle of extended family members, reports The Mirror.

Messages of sympathy have poured in from near and far, remembering her as someone who “always had time and a smile” for everyone she encountered.

One tribute read: “Sincere condolences to the extended O Donnell family on the tragic passing of Chris. She was a lovely person and I’ve fond memories of having a coffee and a chat with her in the Ivory Towers. May her gentle soul. Rest in peace”, reports The Mirror.

Another shared: “So saddened to hear of the tragic passing of Chris. Fond memories of working with her in MUH Radiology. She was always a bright and cheery presence in the room and a pleasure to know and work with. Our sincere condolences to all the family, may she rest in peace”, reports The Mirror.

A former colleague remembered: “I have so many fond memories of us working together in the Welcome Inn and the fun and laughter we had together on many occasions. Treasure the good and happy times you shared together as family and I will remember all of you in my prayers at this sad and difficult time. May her kind and gentle soul now rest in peace,” reports The Mirror.

While another tribute added: “Vinny, Neil, Ronan and Mairead, deepest sympathies to you all on the sad passing of Chris. Such a beautiful lady and always had time and a smile for everyone. May Chris rest in peace,” reports The Mirror.

Chris will repose at Coady’s Funeral Home, Castlebar, on Tuesday, April 29, from 4pm, with removal at 7pm to her residence.

Removal from her home will take place on Wednesday morning at 10am, followed by requiem mass at 11:30am in the Church of the Holy Rosary, Castlebar, reports The Mirror.
