Tributes have poured in for a mother who died after giving birth at her home in Co Limerick.

According to the Irish Independent, the woman was Laura Liston, aged in her 30s, from Croom, Co Limerick, and Tubbercurry, Co Sligo. Sadly, she died after giving birth to her first child, a son in her home in Croom on June 5th.

It’s understood that home births in the entire mid-west region are suspended pending a HSE review of the circumstances that led to the sad death.

According to the Irish Independent, a statement released by the UL Hospitals Group, who declined to identify Ms Liston, read: “We can confirm that we have temporarily suspended the home birth service in the Mid-West following a recent maternal death. The staff of UL Hospitals Group and of the home birth service would like to extend profound sympathies to the family involved on their devastating loss.”

“We have commissioned an external review of the home birth service in the Mid-West. A group of external experts, including those with midwifery and obstetrics expertise, is being assembled to conduct the review; looking at patient safety, clinical governance and any other issues arising,” added the statement.
