Tributes have been paid to this young father after he was killed in a car accident while on a mercy mission to visit a seriously ill brother.

We can reveal that Mark McDaid had travelled almost 300km to visit his brother when he was killed in the horror yesterday morning.

The brother was in Galway hospital after receiving serious injuries while working on a ship in Rossaveal Harbour on Monday and Mr McDaid and other family members had organized a bedside vigil for several days.

He was spending the night at a property in Cummer, near Tuam, when he went out for a walk around 12:30 p.m. and was later struck by a car.

Mr McDaid, who hailed from the Carndonagh area of north Donegal and had married his fiancée in July, was seriously injured at the scene and rushed to Galway University Hospital where doctors were treating his seriously ill brother.

But tragically, Mr. McDaid, who was in his 40s with several children, later lost his fight for life.

Sources confirmed last night that Mr McDaid, who came from a well-known family from the Carndonagh area, was in Galway to visit his brother.

A source said: “The family had been down at the hospital for the brother,” reports The Mirror.

Sources said Mr McDaid was a lorry driver and was well known in the Carndonagh and Culdaff areas of Donegal.

“Everyone is very shocked and very upset. They are a very popular family in the area. It is a real tragedy,” reports The Mirror.

Gardai in County Galway are requesting witnesses to the accident.

Meanwhile, the Dublin Gardai are also investigating a traffic accident.

A male pedestrian died after being struck by a car in Poppintree, Ballymun, around 1am.

The pedestrian, who was in his 30s, was taken from the scene to the Mater hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

The driver of the car did not require hospital attention.

A spokesman said: “Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to come forward. Road users with camera footage (including dash-cam) who were travelling in the area at the time are asked to make it available to Gardaí,” reports The Mirror.
