Tributes paid to “young gentleman”, aged in his 20s who died following Co Carlow crash

A cyclist has died after a collision with a car in County Carlow, reports RTE.

The incident occurred on the N80 at Kilmeany around 11pm Saturday night.

The cyclist, a man in his 20s, was declared dead at the scene, reports RTE.

His remains have been transferred to Waterford University Hospital, where a post-mortem examination is scheduled to be carried out.

Gardaí confirmed that no other injuries were reported in the crash.

The section of road between the Tinryland junction and the M9 has been closed to allow for a forensic investigation, reports RTE.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and are asking anyone who was in the area between 10.45pm and 11.10pm, particularly those with camera or dash-cam footage, to come forward.

Anyone with relevant information is asked to contact Carlow Garda Station at 059 9136620, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any local garda station, reports RTE.

This marks the second fatal cycling incident in a 24-hour period.

Yesterday morning, another cyclist was killed in a hit-and-run near Ballivor in County Meath, reports RTE.
