Tributes have been made to a 25-yr-old Irish man who passed away while on a trip to watch the Tour de France in Paris, reports RTE.

Tomás Walsh, a skilled cyclist from the Cheekpoint area in County Waterford, died in the French capital during the early hours of yesterday morning.

He had travelled to France to attend the 16th stage of the Tour de France, scheduled to take place today, reports RTE.

Comeragh Cycling Club, where Tomás had been a member for the past decade, called him the “life and soul” of their community.

In a statement, a club spokesperson said: “Tomás joined us as a 15-year-old ten years ago and represented us at both underage and senior level where he had great success. He was the life and soul of the club, a fantastic young man,” reports RTE.

The club said that its members have been left “truly shattered” by his passing and offered sympathies to his family and close friends.

The Department of Foreign Affairs confirmed it is aware of the situation and is offering consular support, reports RTE.
