Hundreds of mourners gathered at St Canice’s Church in Clough, Co Laois on Saturday morning for the funeral of a talented hurler and businessman who died suddenly on Tuesday afternoon, reports The Mirror.

John Jack Delaney (28) died while jogging near his home in Ballycola, Co Laois, on Tuesday afternoon.

Speaking during the service, parish priest Canon Noel Maher described John as having “all the qualities of a fine young man including decency, honesty, and a care for others”, reports The Mirror.

Comforting the family, he said there is a strong difference between “separation and absence”.

He said today “many young people are separated from their parents when they emigrate to Australia. However, they do not stop loving their parents. In the same way, even though John has been called to his eternal reward he will not stop loving you”, reports The Mirror.
