Online Casinos Gaining Traction In Ireland: Why?

Over 2023, more and more Irish citizens have been testing out their skills in the iGaming scene, with the market itself projected to have  a CAGR of 1.79%, resulting in a market volume of nearly $1.41 billion by 2027.

Why Are Online Casinos Gaining Traction In Ireland?

One of the biggest reasons why online casinos are becoming so popular is the recent establishment of the Gambling Regulatory Authority of Ireland. Government policies on betting came into fruition in the 20th century, but this was only granted for horse racing – the online revolution was not to come for another seventy-or-so-years!

The last couple of decades, however, have instilled a lot of confidence in the legitimacy of online casinos and betting. Online casinos in general have been getting better, complete with a variety of games for users, including live dealers to replicate the traditional experience and offer a different level of immersion. Because of these improvements, just last year, the iGaming market was valued at around $63.53 billion, and this is expected to grow to a massive $153.57 by 2030.

With the variety, convenience, and safety that online casinos have offered players, their affirmation and regulation have been growing around the world – almost like a domino effect. In Ireland, over 70% of the adult population gambles every year, which means the appetite for online casinos and a strong regulatory system is strong.

This has been realised in the GRAI, a new statutory body that will be directly responsible for managing and regulating these services, ensuring Irish iGaming endeavours remain safe and secure for all involved.

What Is The Allure Of Online Casinos?

As mentioned before, online casinos have been growing more popular worldwide. This can largely be attributed to the release of the first commercial touch-screen smartphone – the iPhone – back in 2007. While online casinos have been a thing since the 1990s, it wasn’t until our smartphones became more accessible and capable that iGaming as an industry began to soar.

For lovers of casinos, it gives them an option for easy, convenient gaming, at any time of the day and in any place. The games are also varied. In any traditional casino, there will be a limit to how many table games or slots are on offer – you might even have to wait several minutes to get a spot at the blackjack table.

Online casino servers, however,  are capable of housing thousands of different games and slots, with players also able to quickly play anything from blackjack, roulette, and poker against live dealers – without having to wait for the current player to lose their hand!

The range of payment options also makes it accessible to far more people, and safer too. No matter who you are, you can pay in the way that feels most comfortable, secure, and safe for you. As mentioned before, the allure of online casinos has certainly grown stronger in Ireland, and the size of the current market reflects that. It’s likely that, over the next seven years, Ireland will play a crucial part in the building of the industry, and online casinos themselves will only get better as a result.
