Arrangements are being made to repatriate the bodies of Irishman Eoin Fitzpatrick and his 10-year-old son Dylan, who died in Turkey earlier this week, reports RTE.

A father and son from Co Laois were killed in a collision between a bus and a moped at 3.30pm local time on Monday.

Turkish media reported that the collision occurred in the Kargıcak district on the D-400 highway between Alanya and Mersin.

Both Mr Fitzpatrick and Dylan died at the scene.

The family was supposed to return to Ireland yesterday.

Mr. Fitzpatrick’s eldest son, Cian, was also on vacation but was not involved in the accident.

The State Department said it was providing consular assistance to the family.

Turkish authorities said an investigation was ongoing.

Portlaoise GAA has posted an online tribute to Eoin and Dylan Fitzpatrick.

The club said their “thoughts and prayers at this unimaginable time are with the Fitzpatrick family and also with Dylan’s Mam Claire and the Dowling family”, reports RTE.

In a Facebook post, the club said the two families have huge ties within the club and the city.

“Eoin was a very talented hurler with our club and won numerous championships at underage level, as well as representing his county. He was the free taker, a deadly scorer from frees and from play. He will be missed terribly by all who knew him”, the post continued, reports RTE.

The club said “GAA wasn’t Dylan’s area of interest. As his Mum Claire said, Dylan’s interests were things like drawing, swimming and golf and he was the sweetest and kindest boy you could imagine,” reports RTE.

The club announced that preparations for the funeral would take place in the coming days.

This is the second tragedy to hit the club and the city in recent months after 15-year-old David Brown was killed in an ATV accident in County Laois in April.
