At around 10 a.m. on Thursday, February 6, a single-vehicle collision on the N59 at Ballycroy, close to Westport, claimed the life of Michael John Murphy, a man in his 40s.

Shortly after, Mr. Murphy, the only person inside the car, was declared dead at the site, reports The Mirror.

Mr. Murphy, a Westport native, was employed by DPD as a delivery driver and had been residing in Belmullet with his Latvian partner Madara Parfjonova.

Numerous coworkers have expressed their shock and grief at Mr. Murphy’s untimely passing, and condolences have flooded in for the well-liked father of two. Mr. Murphy was well-known and respected in the community.

“Deepest condolences to Michael John’s parents, children, partner, extended family and friends upon hearing of his tragic passing doing his job, we are all shocked and saddened here in the depot, may he rest in peace,” one person said, reports The Mirror.

Another of Mr Murphy’s colleagues said: “Lost for words. Sincere sympathy to MJs family at this very difficult time. MJ was a true gentleman, always greeted you with a smile, a great man for chats and banter. A great work colleague. Rest in peace lad,” reports The Mirror.
