A huge earthquake measuring 8.3 on the Richter scale occurred at 2:30am just off the coast of Chile.
It has caused buildings to shake and fall. People were running in the streets for the lives and safety in the capital Santiago.
All residents have beenordered to evacuate coastal areas as tsunami alerts are issued for Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Hawaii.
Tsunami watches are now in place for Chile, Peru, Ecuador and Hawaii after the 8.3-magnitude tremor hit 141 miles northwest of Santiago.
As a result of the earthquark, large waves have been reported striking Chile’s coastline and authorities say one person has been killed in a small town north of Santiago.
California is also on Tsunami alert especially around the Santa Monica beach.
