Tusla is spending €3.5 million on management leadership training, even though it warned last year that it could have to think about freezing hiring or cutting frontline services because of financial constraints, reports The Mirror.
A program on “everyday personal effectiveness” and team coaching for top officials are among the leadership and management courses for which the child and family agency is presently soliciting bids.
The projected spending was referred to as “the first major investment in leadership and management development in the agency since its inception” by a Tusla official.
The agency informed the government last year that it had a large “structural deficit” in its financing and cautioned that it could need to take a number of cost-cutting steps as a result, reports The Mirror.
According to its budget request, they included a freeze on hiring, less assistance for “at-risk children,” and the potential closure of residential care facilities. Less than half of the €260 million it requested in this year’s budget was granted.
Nonetheless, Tusla is now looking for contractors with the necessary qualifications to offer a variety of leadership development courses and associated advisory services. Over the next five years, it anticipates that this will cost €3.5 million, reports The Mirror.
According to the tender papers, the agency’s Leadership and Management Academy would be developed with assistance from the chosen service provider.
Additionally, they will “improve leadership ability, attitude, abilities, and conduct for every employee” and foster “cohesion and psychological safety” across management groups, reports The Mirror.
