Two 20-yr-old men charged after elderly women innocently give them €15,000

Two men have been arrested and charged with alleged fraud, in which two older women lost around €15,000.

The arrests are related to two incidents reported on September 3rd and 29th at Watercourse Road in Cork.

In the first incident, two men went to a house offering construction work which was never done. In the second incident, one of the men called to a house and claimed to be a relative of a neighbour.

The two owners, women of the 70s and 80s, gave the men around €15,000.

Cork Crime Hub detectives investigated the information and searched two houses in Killarney, Kerry County on Saturday. It’s understood that they were backed-up with armed forces during the investigation.

Two 20-yr-old men were arrested and taken to the Mayfield Garda station, where they were charged.

Both are scheduled to appear in Cork court on Monday morning.

Gardai have advised people, in particular elderly people, to be very wary of unfamiliar callers to their house or on the phone. They have asked people to share this information with their friends.
