Two children have been found off the coast of Dublin last night in a supermarket dinghy.

The Irish coast guard were on a routine patrol when they came across the children in the tiny vessel in the waters off Howth in north counry Dublin.

It is understood that the children were wearing swimming armbands as flotation aids.

A spokesperson for the Coast Guard has said it was a common sight for them during the recent warm weather.

They went on to say: “This ‘vessel’ was encountered by our boat based in Howth tonight while out on safety monitoring and training.
“It is a cheap kid’s dinghy with the occupants wearing swimming armbands as a flotation aid.
“They were taken aboard for their own safety and brought back to Howth harbour.”
