
Two women who died in a head-on collision in Mallow, Co Cork, on Sunday afternoon have been named locally as Mary Coughlan (64) of Kings Square, Mitchelstown, and Susan O’Sullivan (41) from Beechwood Park, Mallow, reports Breaking News.
The crash occurred shortly before 4 p.m. on the N72 Killarney to Mallow Road. Emergency services attended the scene, where both women—who were driving separate vehicles—were pronounced dead.
Ms. Coughlan was alone in her car, while Ms. O’Sullivan was traveling with her two children, aged five and eight. The children were taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, reports Breaking News.
Ms. O’Sullivan and her children had been visiting family in Boherbue and were returning home to Mallow when the crash happened. The bodies of both women were taken to the city mortuary.
Local Fianna Fáil Councillor Bernard Moynihan expressed the community’s grief, saying:
“Yesterday evening as the word spread among the community, people were shocked at the news. My sympathies to the families. They are special people, well-known people, hard-working decent people, especially across Western Duhallow and Boherbue,” reports Breaking News.
Gardaà are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which occurred at Navigation Road in Mallow at 3:50 p.m. on Sunday.
