Ride-share company Uber has been sentenced to pay over $1m in damages to a blind woman who was refused transportation on up to 14 separate occasions.
It is understood that the person in question, Ms. Lisa Irving, was refused by San Francisco Uber drivers multiple times, a factor that the arbitrator found contributed to her eventually losing her job.
Uber argued against the ruling, saying that drivers are ‘contractors,’ but a judge dismissed this out of hand.
