UK denies asylum to Iranian Christian citing his religion as violent and hardly peaceful

An Iranian Christian convert has been denied asylum in the UK after authorities cited his faith as being too violent.

The man, who converted from Islam to Christianity, faces a death sentence in Iran as apostasy from Islam is punishable by execution as it is in most countries dominated by the religion of peace.

The New York Times reports that Nathan Stevens, the man’s legal representative says that his Christian faith was cited as being too violent.

The Home Office used extensive quotes from the Bible, such as “You will pursue your enemies, and they will fall by the sword before you,” from Leviticus, as evidence against the asylum seeker’s claim about Christianity.

“These examples are inconsistent with your claim that you converted to Christianity after discovering it is a ‘peaceful’ religion, as opposed to Islam which contains violence, rage and revenge,” read a rejection letter Mr. Stevens shared excerpts from online.
