UK government advises against all travel to northern Italy and advises those who’ve been there to isolate for two weeks regardless of symptoms

The UK Foreign Office has advised against “all but essential travel” to eleven cities in northern Italy after four more people died of a corona virus in just one day. Angelo Borrelli, head of the Italian Civil Protection Agency, said the number of virus cases in the country has increased by 45% today and 11 deaths have now occurred.

The last four cases were all older people: three over 80 years of Lombardy, the most affected region, and a 76-year-old woman in Veneto, another northern region, most affected by the virus. Borrelli said the number of confirmed cases has increased to 322 since Friday’s sudden epidemic, the vast majority of which are in the north of the country.

Early on Tuesday, the UK government advised trips to northern Italy and said that anyone returning from affected areas in Italy should be isolated for two weeks, regardless of whether they have symptoms or not. .

A new update advises of all trips in 10 small towns in Lombardy (Codogno, Castiglione d’Adda, Casalpusterlengo, Fombio, Maleo, Somaglia, Bertonico, Terranova dei Passerini, Castelgerundo and San Fiorano) and one in Veneto (Vo ‘Euganeo), which are on lock-down in a bid to contain the disease.
