UK schools will ‘definitely’ reopen on the 1st of June if infection continues to decrease

The summer holidays haven’t started yet for school children in the UK, as the government once again confirm that schools will reopen on the 1st of June as long as things continue to go as they are.

The UK government has insisted that children will be returning to school on June 1st while coronavirus infections continue to decrease. At the daily meeting in Downing Street, Secretary of Education Gavin Williamson said that it was important that vulnerable and disadvantaged children return to school as soon as possible.

It comes after the Liverpool City Council and Hartlepool City Council said they would refuse to follow government orders because they did not believe this was safe. These plans have also been questioned by teacher unions who disagree with the Ministry of Education as to whether it is possible to return safely to school.

It remains to be seen whether Irish schools will follow suit and reopen on June 1st here also.
