Ukraine is telling Russia to plead for the life of the troops trapped in the city of Lyman, as all supply and escape routes are under Ukraine’s artillery fire control, meaning the troops cannot retreat nor can be resupplied without facing annihilation.
It is estimated that around 5,000 ‘elite’ Russian troops are trapped in the Lyman pocket. The city is of strategic importance due to its rail links to the Donbas region. Capturing Lyman is one of Ukraine’s main objectives in this sector, as it will blow open the door to the east.
If Russia doesn’t plead properly or hard enough, the fate of these men hangs in the balance.
