Russia has declared a pyrrhic victory in the Luhansk area, as the insignificant territorial gain came at an enormous cost in men and war material. Yet, Russian propaganda sells this as a momentous win, which is far removed from reality.
The outcome, though a small tactical victory for Russia, is more than offset by the thousands of soldiers dead or wounded and the hundreds of tanks, aircraft, artillery batteries, and other military vehicles lost to get there.
Elsewhere, Ukraine seized Snake Island, a key strategic enclave on the Black Sea, which is now a no-go area for the Russian navy. Ukraine’s actions there prompted the Russian garrison to jump on the nearest boats and speed away as fast as possible, leaving valuable facilities and intel intact.
