Ukraine declares state of emergency as separatists leaders call for military aid from Russia

The Ukrainian government announced on Wednesday night that it would bring emegerncy measures into effect in the country as leaders of the Russian backed breakaway Republics in the east of the country called for military aid from the Kremlin.

Earlier on Wednesday Moscow began evacuating its Kyiv embassy while the Pentagon claimed that a full scale invasion was likely within days.

The latest developments come as both the UK and U.S governments promise to intensify sanctions against Russia and more military assets are being moved to NATO allies in Eastern Europe.

The Kremlin has dismissed these sanctions warning that they would ensure a reciprocal response as hopes for a diplomatic outcome to the crisis fade.
