UK’s NHS services contacts Ireland for help with its Covid-19 tests

The UK’s National Health Service has contacted the HSE for help with its Covid-19 tests.

Speaking about the test and trace system, HSE chief Paul Reid has revealed that he was contacted by his British counterparts for help.

Reid said he was contacted by senior NHS officials requesting that could Ireland do some of their testing at laboratories.

However Reid said that Ireland is currently unable to help as we only built up our testing capacity for 100,000 tests.

The HSE chief said Ireland wasn’t in a position to help as our testing capacity numbers were only built up with Ireland in mind.

The news comes as the UK’s test and trace system has come under immense pressure with people being forced to travel hundreds of miles to recieve a test.
