Un-democratic democracy: Fianna Fail leader defends the exclusion of Sinn Fein from TV debates, implying that people should only choose Fianna Fail or Fine Gael for government

The leader of the Fianna Fail party, Micheal Martin, has defended the exclusion of Sinn Fein from any TV debate about the upcoming election, in a move that implies that Fianna Fail and Fine Gael should be the only choices in people’s minds.

Both RTE and Virgin Media One will not feature Sinn Fein’s Mary Lou McDonald in any TV debate about election, a decision that has sparked a huge backlash.

A debate that features the two men that have shared power over the last number of years in a somewhat theatrical display of government-opposition charade, is seen by many as undemocratic.
