There was bad news for those currently on the housing list after it was revealed that over 20,000 people waiting for a home in Dublin city could be waiting up to forty years to be re-housed.
The startling news which has caused great concern amongst homeless advocacy groups.
It is believed the long wait for housing which is steadily rising over the past few years comes as the homelessness rate has increased by almost 300% between 2014 and July of last year.
The increase in demand for social housing has also come as younger people have put their names on the list due to the fact of spiraling house and rent prices.
Homeless advocacy groups have now called on the government to address an already out of control situation before it becomes worse.
