A large group of Dublin City University students have a sleep-out protest in an effort to halt an increase in student accommodation rent prices.

It is believed the protest which seen many students take to the streets overnight, comes after they were informed that rent prices for off campus accommodation will increase by 27%.

The bold move by student accommodation providers has ultimately angered in the region of 600 students, could potentially see students paying €9,000 per annum for accommodation instead of the current fee of €7,000 per annum.

It is understood that the vast majority of students living at the Shanowen student residence in Santry, north Dublin, will be the worst affected by the proposed price hikes.
