It was a ferocious fight, one which will talked about for years to come. Ireland’s Katie Taylor managed to pull off the win and become the unified World Champion against Delfine Persoon.

Taylor who headed into the fight as WBA, IBF, WBO, world champion, added the WBC crown to her haul after beating Delfine Persoon in Madison Square Garden.

In a 10 round slug fest Taylor came out on top on a points decision winning 96-94, 96-94, 95-95.

Taylor’s victory was hard earned as her opponent pushed her all the way with an unorthodox style.

The Bray native who landed a number of successful shots was more than matched as Persoon landed a number of punches of her own and was lucky not to come out on top as the judges awarded Taylor a points victory.

Speaking afterwards, Katie said that she definitely did enough to win even though Persoon left the ring in tears and wouldn’t shake hands at the end.
