Unions vow to “not pay a penny” to bus companies management over strike

The top brass at Dublin Bus and Bus Eireann issued legal letters to unions involved in the dispute, informing them of their intention to seek compensation in relation to losses incurred during the industrial action.

But Siptu Divisional Organiser Owen Reidy has described such move as “foolish”, stating that it will only lead to “heightened tensions” among all parties involved in the dispute.

Mr. Reidy said “If they take this challenge, we’ll meet it head on, and we won’t be paying a penny to anybody. This is a legitimate trade dispute with both employers because they have failed to address the industrial relations issues involved.”

The National Bus and Rail Union (NBRU) has issued a letter to management at both Dublin Bus and Bus Éireann, saying that the threat of legal action is “clearly unnecessary and vexatious”.
