363 passengers had a scary ride yesterday, after the United Airlines flight they were flying on lost part of an engine cowling in mid-air.
The aircraft, a Boeing 777 model, was minutes away from Honolulu airport when its crew noticed a vibration on the starboard engine. The cowling soon came apart.
The crew declared an emergency and the flight began its descent, landing normally at Honolulu a short time later.
Pratt&Whitney, the engine manufacturer, is assisting United Airlines to determine the root cause of the issue.
