A father, mother, and their five children -all under the age of 10- are believed to have died in a blaze that broke out in a south Dublin halting site last night.

There are also concerns about some relatives who were due to stay over.

It is understood the family were sleeping inside a portacabin that caught fire.

Four other people, including two young children, were taken to hospital.

The halting site is located next to the Wayside Celtic Football Club in Carrickmines, south Dublin.

Gardai say that there’s a number of inquiries they’re following, but they’re asking for any witnesses who may have been in the area at the time.

Locals say that “It’s a tragic, sad and very unfortunate incident”.

This is one of the worst fires, in terms of fatalities, that has happened in recent years.
