Up to 50 people allowed go to Mass from today, but weddings and funerals are another story, says government

It’s been a very trying 14 months. People are fed with the government’s lockdown decisions, and rightly so.

Many people turn to their faith in a testing time like lockdown, but thanks to Micheal Martin and Leo Varadkar, even that was hindered with the closure of Churches across the country.

However, there’s light at the end of the tunnel – excuse the pun.

Mass will resume from today with up to 50 people allowed in attendance, the same as last summer.

Churches are deemed by most as being the safest of environments given their size.

However, weddings and funerals look to have just 6 for a wedding and just 25 people for a funeral, which will remain in place for the time being with the mindset that people tend to go straight home after Mass rather than stick around like they would after other religious events.

Either way, it’s a long overdue start for those wanting to go back to Mass especially given the disgusting scenes in Athlone on Sunday where two gardai threw elderly people out of a Church.
