Up, up and away: Longest ever non-stop flight to Oz lands after 19 long hours

A commercial plane set a record of 19 hours and 16 minutes of flight over the weekend. The Qantas plane flew non-stop from New York to Sydney. The good news is that the test flight seems to have gone well. Soon you can use this service yourself with Qantas starting it soon. On Sunday morning, Boeing 787 Dreamliner, a series of tests were conducted to assess the impact of long-distance flights on crew fatigue and time lag.

The Australian airline Qantas said that the tests ranged from brainwave tracking, to melatonin levels and vigilance, to passenger training courses, including an interpretation of the Macarena dance. A total of 49 people were on board to save weight and to ensure the necessary fuel would last. To reduce the time delay, the crew started for the first six hours of the night, depending on the time of day at the destination. They also first served lunch instead of supper, to maintain the illusion of being in a different time zone.

According to Sky, Captain Sean Golding, who led the four pilots, said: ‘Overall, we’re really happy with how the flight went and it’s great to have some of the data we need to help assess turning this into a regular service.’
