More than one million people have passed through security checkpoints at U.S. airports a day since Saturday, a sign that public health calls to avoid Christmas travel are being ignored, despite an alarming increase in cases of COVID-19.
This is the first time that US airports have screened over a million passengers a day since November 29th , and it came at the end of a Thanksgiving weekend that saw many more trips across the country than authorities had hoped for as the weather turned colder and COVID-19 cases were already peaking again.
It’s expected that travel will peak tomorrow on Christmas Eve.
