The upcoming Budget is set to outline increases to the much-hated carbon tax, and many fear that as much as €6 per year might be added to it for the next decade.
Right now, the carbon tax stands at €20 per tonne. The plan is to increase this to €80 per tonne by the year 2030, which may add upwards of €15 to the cost of filling up a standard 60-litre tank of petrol.
Petrol and diesel prices are likely to go up by up to 2c from Tuesday night anyway, in the wake of the new Budget.
