A devastating incident unfolded in Dublin’s bustling city centre today, when a double-decker Bus Éireann vehicle left the roadway and struck pedestrians on North Earl Street near its junction with Marlborough and Talbot Streets.

The crash occurred shortly after 12:30 pm in a pedestrianised zone. Emergency services, including GardaĂ, Dublin Fire Brigade, and multiple ambulance crews, responded rapidly. One adult male was pronounced dead at the scene. Three other adults were taken to hospital, with injuries ranging from minor to serious. The bus driver is among those receiving treatment.

GardaĂ have classified the event as a road traffic collision and confirmed the bus was not carrying passengers at the time of the incident. Initial reports suggest the vehicle veered off the designated route before mounting the footpath and entering the pedestrian area.

Justice Minister Jim O’Callaghan addressed the Dáil this afternoon, expressing deep sympathy to the victim’s family and those injured. He described the event as a “tragic loss” and said Gardaí are conducting a thorough investigation into the circumstances.

North Earl Street and surrounding areas remained closed for several hours as forensic collision investigators examined the scene. Witnesses are being urged to come forward with any information.

The incident has shocked the local community and once again highlighted road safety concerns in Ireland’s capital during busy weekday hours.
