Uproar as planning permission granted in Tipperary for Muslim cultural centre despite large local opposition

A large group of people who oppose a Muslim cultural centre in Tipperary have expressed their outrage after An Bord Pleanála gave the go-ahead to a planned Muslim cultural centre in the town.

An Bord Pleanála completely rejected an appeal by concerned residents who are against the decision of Tipperary County Council to give the go ahead to the proposed development by the Tipperary Islamic Cultural Centre at Irishtown in Clonmel.

Concerned citizens claimed the proposed development should more correctly be described as a mosque as it would be used between 6am and 10pm with prayers five times daily however it appears that the centre will go ahead.

According to the Mirror, An Bord Pleanála claim that the building was not a traditional mosque and its description as a cultural centre was “accurate and acceptable”.

The Mirror reports that the bord ruled out that the centre, subject to a number of planning conditions, would not seriously injure residential or visual amenities of adjoining properties.

Over 200 concerned citizens had signed objections the new building.
