The popular social media site ‘TikTok’ which is owned by Beijing-based start-up ByteDance may soon be banned for the United States over security concerns that the Chinese government is using it to spy and gather information on users.

Other countries such as India, which is currently involved in a border dispute with China that has the potential to erupt into war, has already banned the app while US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo has said that TikTok and Huawei technology are also being looked at as potential dangers to US national security.

When asked in an interview with Laura Ingraham on Fox News whether or not he thinks people should download the TikTok app, Pompeo replied:

“Only if you want your private information in the hands of the Chinese Communist Party.”

The app had already been criticised by concerned parents over its alleged use of paedophiles seeking exploit children and it is now hoped that other Western nations will follow suit in banning if the US takes this action.
