US Democrats block bill that would protect babies who survive abortion

US Democrat Senators have blocked a bill that would ensure that babies who survive abortions are given medical care rather than being left to die without medical attention.

The Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, which is sponsored by Sen. Ben Sasse received a vote of 53 in favour and 44 against. This was seven votes short of the qualified majority 60 needed to pass the bill.

The proposed legislation reads

“This bill amends the federal criminal code to require any health care practitioner who is present when a child is born alive following an abortion or attempted abortion to: (1) exercise the same degree of care as reasonably provided to any other child born alive at the same gestational age, and
(2) ensure that such child is immediately admitted to a hospital”

This bill was in response to a push by Democrats for abortion in demand up to birth, which the democratic controlled State of New York did legalise as well as calls from some such as the Democratic governor of Virginia for legalisation of post-birth abortions.

President Trump took to twitter to express his disgust with the new extreme pro-abortion stance of Democrats stating

“Senate Democrats just voted against legislation to prevent the killing of newborn infant children,”
Trump claimed on Twitter on Monday.
“The Democrat position on abortion is now so extreme that they don’t mind executing babies AFTER birth…..This will be remembered as one of the most shocking votes in the history of Congress. If there is one thing we should all agree on, it’s protecting the lives of innocent babies.”
