US Judge rules that parents need to compensate their son for destroying his porn collection

A US judge in Michigan has ruled that a 42-yr-old man can seek full compensation from his parents for the destruction of his pornography collection.

David Werking, who lived with his parents after he divorced his wife, sued them for the items he owns for more than $25,000 (€20,400).

His parents claimed that they asked Mr. Werking not to take the items home to their house.

The judge said that as the owner, Mr Werking’s parents did not have the right to dispose of their son’s property but that they went ahead and did it anyway.

Werking had lived with his parents in Grand Haven, Michigan for 10 months after his divorce, but moved out of the house in August 2017. Today, he lives in Indiana.

He said he left his vast and irreplaceable magazine and film collection with his parents at their house and later found them missing, the Holland Sentinel newspaper reports.

His parents said they weren’t willing to bring the items to Indiana and didn’t want them in their own home.

Werking filed a lawsuit, claiming the items had been illegally destroyed in April 2019.

Emails between Werking and his father claims that the items included at least 12 full boxes of “pornography plus two boxes of sex toys”, according to the Sentinel. Werking said there were over 1,600 DVDs and tapes and many magazines.

Werding’s father allegedly said that he did his son a big favour by getting rid of all the collection.

Following the verdict, an lawyer for the parents said she was working to determine the damages, and had hired an expert from the Erotic Heritage Museum in Nevada to help with the process of just how much they owed their son.

The Werkings must outline the damages to the court by February where an agreement will be reached.
