A 37-year-old American male has been charged after attempting to steal a piece of the railway track leading into Auschwitz.
The man, who admitted his guilt, may face up to 10 years in prison for the crime.
Auschwitz has been vandalized several times over the last few years. Back in 2009 for example, the metal sign reading “Arbeit Macht Frei” (“Work Will Set You Free”) was stolen. It was later found cut into three pieces.
