A US woman missing for more than a week has been found alive, stuck in the mud at a state park for at least several days, Massachusetts police said, reports RTE.
Emma Tetewski, 31, was found in a swampy area of Borderlands State Park after tourists heard her cries for help, according to a joint statement from local authorities involved in the rescue operation.
She was last seen on June 25 just outside the park, about 30 miles south of Boston.
The uncomfortable conditions initially deterred rescuers, forcing them to use off-road vehicles, reports RTE.
Arriving at the heavily wooded park, officers from the nearby town of Easton “waded 50 feet from the shore, through thick brush and swamp, to reach Ms Tetewsky,” the statement said, reports RTE.
Officers “blindly jumped into the water and followed the woman’s calls for help,” Easton Police Chief Keith Boone said, reports RTE.
Ms Tetewski may have been stuck in the mud for at least three days, the joint statement added.
She was taken to hospital with serious injuries, although police say they are not life-threatening.
