In a case that is bound to strike horror in the heart of every animal-lover, a couple have been banned from owning any animal for several years and have been ordered to carry out community service as well as pay a fine.
According to RTE, Colm Sharkey and Fiona Quinn were responsible for running an illegal dog breeding centres which was one of the largest in the country. The two, who were allegedly running the operation from a number of sheds erected at the rear of a house that they rented.
Following a complaint to the ISPCA, it was decided to take a case against the couple who also have two children. RTE reports that both adult dogs and puppies were rescued, and sadly several had to be put down due to their various health problems including mange, dental and eye infections, lesions on their skin and overgrown nails.
The only comfort for dog lovers is the fact that the two have been banned from owning dogs and so will hopefully not be able to inflict similar suffering on any dogs in the future.
