Tánaiste Leo Varadkar said a major social protection package needs to be included in the October budget, along with increased childcare support and a lower tax burden for middle earners.
The Fine Gael leader spoke at the National Business Dialogue in Dublin, where stakeholders from across society met to discuss the budget.
Taoiseach Micheál Martin previously told delegates that the government will maintain a calibrated and targeted response to inflation when preparing the October budget.
He said that while the government will continue to help, it cannot alleviate the full burden of inflation.
