Varadkar: Belfast Pride is the “best of Britishness and Irishness” as he embraced PSNI officers

There have been mixed reactions to the Taoiseach Leo Varadkar travelling north for the Belfast Pride parade that took place on Saturday.

Varadkar caused major controversy after he announced boldly that Belfast Pride brings out the best of “Britishness and Irishness” – presumably openly admitting that Britain is now accepted and indeed embraced on the island of Ireland, something many people would disagree with for obvious reasons.

As 10,000 homeless Irish people prepare for yet another night sleeping in doorways, on park benches and in hotel rooms around the country, Ireland’s openly gay Taoiseach Leo Varadkar was patting backs and and taking selfies with PSNI officers.

The 40-yr-old Taoiseach tweeted somewhat of a controversial statement saying that the Pride parade brings out the “best of Britishness and Irishness”.
