Mother charged with murder after dropping new-born baby to fist fight another woman

A mother in the US state of Georgia has been charged with murder after she purposefully dropped her three-month old baby so she could attack another woman outside a beauty salon.

Karen Harrison, (26) was charged with felony murder, first degree cruelty to children, second degree cruelty to children, simple battery and affray, according to US media outlet WALB.

Harrison lied to police telling them that the baby had accidentally fallen from the arms of a family friend, the friend in questioned Carneata Clark corroborated the story and faces charges for obstruction of justice and providing false statements to police.

Police arrested the two women after viewing CCTV footage from the car park in which the incident took place.

The footage shows Harrison dropping the new-born on the pavement to attack a woman with whom she was having an argument while a by-stander ran to help the fatally injured infant. Harrison continued to fight the woman for some time before taking the child from the good Samaritan and leaving in her car.

The child died from injuries in hospital the following day on July 21st.

In a statement to WALB Harrison’s friend Carneata Clark said

“I feel like, free Karen, all the way…, “If y’all know Karen, she takes care of her kids, y’all know how she feel about her kids, y’all know what she’ll do for her kids, y’all know that she is not no bad person.”
