Varadkar says childhood in Gaza ‘a death sentence’ for many

At the beginning of his week-long tour to the United States, which includes meetings and festivities leading up to St. Patrick’s Day, the Taoiseach has reaffirmed calls for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza, reports RTE.

During this week’s customary bi-lateral meeting with US President Joe Biden, the topic of US backing for Israel’s shelling of Gaza will be discussed.

Three UN Security Council resolutions urging a ceasefire have been overruled by the US veto.

Yesterday evening in Boston, Taoiseach Leo Varadkar reaffirmed calls for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza during a keynote address at the John F. Kennedy Presidential Library.

“What happened on the 7 October was an act of pure evil and hatred, and it can never be forgotten or excused,” he told the audience, reports RTE.

“Colleagues, when thousands of children are killed in response no one can avert their eyes,” he said, reports RTE.
