Varadkar says that the 2 metre rule may be modified in certain circumstances such as schools and tourism sector

Finally it appears as though the stringent lockdown restrictions are coming to an end at long last.

The Taoiseach Leo Varadkar has said the current 2m rule maybe modified ik certain circumstances in the future.

Speaking to Pat Kenny on Virgin Media One, Varadkar said that the rule could be changed in order to allow schools to operate more effectively.

Varadkar told Kenny that the rule may also be changed in order to protect jobs in the tourism sector, although he did reiterate that in most circumstances the current rule is correct in order to stem the spread of the virus.

The Taoiseach’s comments come as Ireland has moved forward its plans to lift restrictions.
